Biography

Ivo Soldini was born in Lugano in 1951. He attended compulsory school in Bellinzona and the Liceo Cantonale in Lugano. He then attended the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan for a year (1972-73), thus beginning his career as an artist. During the following three years he enriched his studies at the State University of Milan, particularly at the faculties of political science, literature and art history. Starting in 1973, he began an intense exhibition activity that took him to galleries and public places in Switzerland and abroad. At first, he devoted himself to drawing and painting and since 1975 he has been working with bronze, aluminium and plaster to create small and medium-sized sculptures and reliefs. His monumental works for public spaces date mainly from the 1990s. In the early 2000s, the artist exhibited at the Centro Svizzero in Milan and at the Château de Gruyères. In 2005, he donated 70 works, including sculptures, paintings and graphic art, to the Cardiocentro in Lugano. Two years later there was an important exhibition at Villa Saroli in Lugano. Ivo Soldini has recently exhibited in Bern, Horgen, Lausanne, Sion and Bellinzona. The artist lives and works in his father’s house in Ligornetto.
