Unique piece by sculptress Jaya Schürch posed on Alpe Foppa on 15 October 2008. Cubo sospeso means “pending cube”.

Almost three tons of marble suspended seemingly effortlessly by cables make this invisible force visible. Without gravity, there would be no life, no universe, but no one really knows what it is, only what it does.”

Biography of the artist

Jaya Schürch was born in 1958 in Santa Barbara, California. In 1972 she moves to Bern first and then to Zürich where, from 1978 until 1980 she studies at the ETH. In 1981 she begins a long period of study travel that takes her first in Asia and then in California, where between 1982 and 1984 she studies Botany, Biology and Art at the Santa Barbara City College. Afterwards she is assistant to artists Ira Ono (ceramic) and Be Jones (textile) in Hawaii. In 1986 she makes a study trip to Pietrasanta, and the year after she returns to California, where for two years  she makes an apprenticeship in sculpture restoration. In 1988 she returns to Europe where she is full-time occupied as artist. She owns an atelier in Pietrasanta and in Zürich.
