The Santa Maria degli Angeli church, designed by the world famous architect Mario Botta, is a marvel of contemporary architecture, with paintings by Enzo Cucchi.
A visit to this church is a must for anyone who admires culture. This powerful stronghold built on the spur of the mountain is an invitation to meditation and offers a new way of viewing the landscape.
The church, built between 1992 and 1994, is dedicated to Santa Maria degli Angeli, and is quite innovative in terms of the design of a religious building.
Built out of porphyry, it is situated on the edge of a slope. Beyond the slope lies an extraordinary panoramic view.
The paintings by Enzo Cucchi occupy two main areas: the ceiling over the footbridge, where there is a tall cypress tree and in the very heart of the church.
The apse is deep blue and includes hands cupped in offering. Twenty-two panels are placed over the windows with Marian iconography.
